Justice Peter Affen of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, today, February 2, postponed the trial of the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) due to the failure of the Department of State Service (DSS) to produce the ex-NSA in court on time.
Dasuki, co-defendants are facing trial for alleged diversion of N13billion, part of the $2.1million meant for the procurement of arms for the Nigerian Army for the fight against Boko Haram.
It was gathered Justice Affen was already adjourning the case when the DSS arrived in court with Dasuki.
The need for the other co-defendants to also respond to an application by Dasuki to stop the trial was also part of why the proceedings could not go on.
However, according to The Cable, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Jacobs, had told the court at the commencement of trial at about 9:15am that Dasuki was not in court yet because he still “dressing up”, urging the court to either stand down the case or adjourn it.
The case was postponed to February 26.
Others facing prosecution along with Dasuki in the 22 counts of N13bn fraud charges are a former Director of Finance and Administration in the Office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda; a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, the ex-governor’s son, Sagir Attahiru, and a firm, Dalhatu Investment.
