Cameroon, Nigerian Forces Retake Town, Free 150 Hostages

A joint anti-Boko Haram offensive by Cameroonian and Nigerian forces and the Multinational Joint Taskforce resulted in the recapture of the Nigerian locality of Kumshe, close to the border with Cameroon, army officials said.

At least 23 Boko Haram insurgents were killed and more than 150 Nigerian hostages were freed, Didier Badjeck, spokesman for the Cameroonian army, said in an interview on Thursday in Yaounde.

The raids occurred in northeastern Nigeria between Feb. 22 and 24. Kumshe, situated 15 kilometers (nine miles) from the Cameroonian border, has been under Boko Haram control for the past 18 months.
